The presbyopic lens is losing its ability to change its focus through adaptation. Presbyopia begins in the mid-forties and everyone is affected.
The main difficulty is the same as the hypermetropia. The focal point of the light rays coming from nearby objects remains at the back of the retina and is out of focus. In hypermetropia, this is the reason why the eyeball is normally short. The reason for the presbyopia condition is that the elongated lens is harder and its flexibility is reduced. This makes it difficult or impossible to sharply bend the light rays necessary for the harmony to occur, which allows the focal point to come before retinas.
When you are tired, it may be harder to read at night or in low light. Presbyopia occurs without regard to how you are visually impaired.
The first sign of presbyopia is the need to distract objects while reading. In the future, this blurred vision grows even more and the forehead and aches in the temporal region are formed. Focusing on nearby objects brings other problems with time. After reading, it may be difficult to see clearly distant objects on a temporary basis, because distant objects also require adaptation to know focus.
The only solution of presbyopia is mostly optical correction (reading glasses). Persons using lenses for myopia need double vision glasses (upper vision is for far vision and lower vision is for close vision) or they use two separate glasses.
Because of the worsening of presbyopia, prescriptions written until the late sixties change frequently. When it comes to these age, presbyopia becomes static. Since the age of 60-65, the ability to focus on the eye actuala wide range of patientsly stops because of the loss of flexibility of the lens. At this stage, seeing close range becomes completely dependent on the glasses. However, those who are near myop take the distant spectacles away and can see more easily while doing close work.
Symptoms of Presbyopia
Presbyopia patients cant’s see objects closer than 50 cm. For this reason they can see by distract objects. Headaches may also accompany the forehead and temporal regions if vision is still impaired in the future.
There are many treatment methods applied wolrdwide. These treatment methods have their own advantages and disadvantages. Currently, intraocular multifocal lens operations and presbyond laser treatments are successfully applied in our hospital.
1. Treatment with glasses
• Bifocal glasses
• Multifocal (progressive) glasses
2. Treatment with Contact Lens
Multifocal contact lenses: Patients who are fit for the lens are getting successful results when using these lenses. However, patients over the age of 40 may experience problems in use due to reduced tear quality.
Monovision with contact lens (single eyelid release): This treatment may be evident only in the first examination.
There are 3 places in the eye where surgical intervention can be performed.
• Presbyond Treatment
• Monovision Excimer Laser Therapy
• Multifocal Lenses / Trifocal Lenses
• Accommodative Lenses
An option for presbyopia patients
The aging problem of the eye starts at about the age of 45. By using the PRESBYOND Laser Concord Area method, this adaptation problem can be corrected with a refractive surgical approach and good vision can be obtained at distant, medium and close distances. Corneal refractive surgery, which provides a very precise intervention, provides the opportunity to provide visual acuity by providing a deep visual field. The spherical aberration that is naturally found in the eye, and the scope of the personalized laser approach, in many respects, is expanding to include more people than conventional monovision laser methods.

Before refractive surgery with PRESBYOND LASER CONCORD AREA, the intervention is performed taking into consideration the “wavefront data” in the patient’s eye.
With PRESBYOND Laser Concord Area, a clear vision is aimed at near, medium and long distances without compromising at all.

PRESBYOND Laser Concord Area
One step beyond conventional monovision
It is similar to conventional monovision with laser treatment for workflow. However, since the person makes a special correction, it is one step ahead especially in terms of the results.
PRESBYOND Laser Concord Area
Physiologically optimized for presbyopic patients, it is the next step in perfection that is achieved in eye treatment. As in the conventional monovision, the dominant eye is made almost zero, while the non dominant eye is left as mild as -1.5D for near vision. This micro monovision strategy is supported by a method that will increase the depth of field by creating a continuous refraction in the entire optical region of the cornea. PRESBYOND Laser Concord Area is a strictly personalized treatment that takes into account the functional age and preoperative spherical aberrations of the eye. As a result, the two images of the near and distant view formed for each patient are combined in a special manner; we call it “Concord Area”.
Unique concord area
Concord are makes it easier for the brain to combine images from both eyes. This is a significant advantage over the conventional monovision. Besides excellent near and far vision, patients with PRESBYOND Laser Concord Area experience very good visual acuity and contrast sensitivity at medium distance. They fit very quickly and most of them are happy that they no longer have to wear glasses.
As a result, most patients with PRESBYOND LASER Concord Area conquer this condition (up to 97% 1)
In conventional monovision treatment methods (both surgical and contact lenses), the dominant eye is made virtually zero. The non dominant eye is usually left to myopia up to -3.0D and corrected for close vision. This method aims at providing the ideal vision near and far. After the procedure, the brain deals with two separate images that are corrected at different levels.
Scientific studies have shown that only 59-67% of patients can successfully combine both views in order to be able to capture clear images at near and far distance. Those who concede this method remain with an uncorrected space called “Blurred Field” in the middle distance. In addition to blurred images, side effects such as contrast sensitivity and decreased visual acuity in both eyes may occur. It also usually takes a long time to get used to perceiving both images as a single image.
Conventional monovision is a method with concessions. It is not a suitable option for a group of patients.
PRESBYOND Laser Concord Area
Conventional monovision methods are using standard ablation profiles. The PRESBYOND Laser Concord Area includes a personal application for each eye because of the increased depth of field.
The PRESBYOND Laser Concord Area is a personal approach that treats presbyopic diseases. Pre-operative wavefront data is imported for the calculation of the individual operation to provide the personal depth of coverage. In this way, a personal nomogram is created for each eye to keep the ideal target. The monovision part of the procedure is adjusted preoperatively, taking into account the tolerance of the patient. In addition, different optic zone selection is made considering the patient’s eye number.
Middle – Eld Age Group
The PRESBYOND Laser Concord Area is a laser method suitable for aged accommodation. It is ideal to treat patients aged between 40-60 years. This method is also the most uncompliated procedure for presbyopia
The LASIK process first emerged in 1990 and was adopted and implemented in the United States in 1999. The PRESBYOND LASER Concord Area Method also uses the accepted LASIK process that has been applied for many years. The PRESBYOND Laser Concord Area Method works with the ZEISS CRS-Master® program and the MEL 90 Excimer Laser platform.
From a purely visual point of view, the PRESBYOND Laser Concord Area provides a clear view of conventional monovision at all distances (near, medium and distant). Almost all patients get rid of reading glasses.
Outstanding Visual Acuity
Because of the customized treatment for each patient, the PRESBYOND Laser Concord Area provides excellent visual acuity with near and distant vision. Unlike conventional monovision methods, the PRESBYOND Laser Concord Area also provides good visibility at middle distance within the Concord Area. Clinical trials show that functional visualization is preserved and that there isn’t any loss of contrast sensitivity. At the same time, side effects, such as the appearance of more than one vision with one eye, are almost completely eliminated.
Completely Normal Approach
The PRESBYOND Laser Concord Area is a physiological solution and is a method that allows the use of two identical eyes for the treatment of presbyopic patients.
Applicable on a Wide Range of Patients
PRESBYOND Laser Concord Area is an effective and proven method of treating patients with vision defects between -8.0 D and +2.0 D, including presbyopic patients who do not wear distant eyeglasses and have astigmatism (up to 2.0 D cylinders).
The difference between PRESBYOND Laser Concord Area and the other methods, is the immediate detection of the positive effects.
Suitable for Many Patients
A significant advantage of a treatment with the PRESBYOND Laser Concord Area is that it is accepted by more patients than conventional monovision. While PRESBYOND Laser Concord Area is effective in treating presbyopia-related disorders by up to 97%, this figure remains at 59-67% in conventional monovision. Even those patients who do not need glasses and who have astigmatism far away can be treated. Indeed, it has much more success potential than any comparable method.
